A B2B SaaS company in the project management space had built their Android app on client-side purchase verification — the app called Google Play Billing, trusted the result, and unlocked features locally. As their subscriber base grew past 5,000, they started seeing edge cases: renewal failures that went undetected for days, subscription state inconsistencies between devices, and no unified view of entitlements across their Android app and web application.

Their backend team wanted to move to server-side verification with RTDN webhook processing, but the integration effort — building a token vault, writing verification logic against the Android Publisher API, and handling Pub/Sub push messages — was estimated at 4-6 weeks with two engineers.

The migration: server-side verification layer

  4. Enable RTDN webhook processing (handled by Tierux) for automatic subscription state updates.
  5. Gate premium features server-side based on entitlement state.

The entire migration — from planning to production — took one week. The two billing engineers spent most of that time updating the client app and backend gating logic; the verification infrastructure was operational on day one.

RTDN: the missing piece

The biggest win was RTDN webhook processing. Under client-side verification, renewal failures were invisible — the app only checked purchase state when the user opened it. A subscriber whose renewal payment failed could go days with premium access before the app noticed. With RTDN, Tierux receives the subscription state change within seconds and updates the entitlement record. The backend gating check always reflects the current state.
